About you St Andrews Old Course History Tour
Learn how golf in St Andrews has changed over the years and why our old caddie shack can’t be seen during the Open.
Find out why the game we know may not be as old as you may think, as Richard explains the timeline development of both golf as we know it and the Old Course.
Hear about early pioneers Allan Robertson, Old and Young Tom Morris. Plus a little about Tiger Woods, Rory Mcilroy, Sean Connery and Doreen Stubbs.
Learn about the Open, the Dunhill Championship and adjoining landmarks, including how the game increased in popularity in 1895, and how an elephant was hit by a ball from the 1st tee!
Other interesting facts on your Old Course tour
Hear about double greens, reversed bunkers, rabbit wars, how the 1st and 17th shared the same hole until 1863, the elusive Old Course burial ground, the first putting green, the world’s oldest golf shop and Nike’s genius.
Have a photo shoot on the Swilkan Bridge – one of the most iconic features in the game of golf, and hear about the streakers here during the 2000 Open!
Hear also about some of Richard’s memorable jaw-dropping memories at the Old Course Road Hole.
All this and a lot more packed into one juicy golftastic hour amid the Home of Golf, on Richard’s bucket list award-winning St Andrews Old Course History Tour!
Richard’s St Andrews golf tours are endorsed by global Golf Historian and St Andrews legend David Joy.

St Andrews Golf Oriented History Tours
Richard also runs the St Andrews Golf Oriented History Tours. These St Andrews walking tours take in the town of St Andrews as well as the Old Course. With a mix of both, these tours are ideal for those in your group who are interested in golf and those who aren’t. All will find out more about St Andrews remarkable history. This is also the only tour to visit the graves of Allan Robertson and Young and Old Tom Morris.
Please note: There is some overlapping in terms of golf on the two tours, but general St Andrews history doesn’t feature in the Old Course History Tour.
